Vocational Assessment

This type of assessment examines which occupations best fit with an individual’s abilities, interests, and personality. It consists of a clinical interview and standardized tests which assess learning competencies, work-related aptitudes, academic achievement and vocational interests. The results of vocational assessments help in determining the individual’s training and work based potential, career opportunities and will include a list of specific realistic occupations that the client would be suited for taking into consideration any physical, cognitive and psychological limitations as provided by medical professionals.

Earnings Capacity Assessments

An earning capacity assessment is an evaluation of an individual’s ability to earn wages before and after an injury. The main point here is the ability, which is hard to measure without a strict methodology employed by a vocational expert. Earning capacity assessments provide an accurate evaluation regarding the lost wages and diminished future earning capacity that occurred due to the injury. Generally, working history alone is not presumptive of the earning capacity prior to the event, which is why it’s necessary to evaluate other factors that establish a more precise assessment of the baseline earning capacity.

Psycho-vocational Assessments

This type of assessment identifies occupations for which an individual is suited by education, training, work history and transferable skills; taking into consideration abilities, restrictions/limitations (both physical and psychological) and demonstrated test scores. It consists of a clinical interview and standardized tests which also measure current levels of social and emotional functioning, potential for further education and employment aptitudes. A psycho-vocational assessment identifies potential learning challenges, barriers to employment, training potential and occupational options and is conducted under the supervision of a Registered Psychologist. It will also include an examination of statistical data in relation to the labour market (market availability) and regional wage information. A psycho-vocational assessment will identify how potential suitable occupations draw upon the client’s learning competencies, aptitudes, academic achievements, vocational interests and physical/psychological abilities.

Labour Market Surveys

A Labor Market Survey (LMS) is a work product that provides information about a local labor market. This information is used to determine whether specific jobs are appropriate based on an individual’s vocational profile. A vocational profile is the synthesis of an individual’s skills, work experience, educational level, and workplace capabilities/limitations. A Labor Market Survey establishes which jobs and wages are available for a specific period of time in a particular geographical area.
